Cincinnati’s Slow Food Movement Represented at International Congress

I am excited to represent Gorman Heritage Farm and Slow Food Cincinnati at the International Congress and Terra Madre - Salone Del Gusto in Turin, Italy in October. The International Congress only happens every five years and I will be one of just 239 delegates from around the United States representing our country as a Slow Food movement leader. You can view my updates in this blog, The Wandering Spatula.

You can help me to support and represent our food community in three ways:
  1. SEND YOUR THOUGHTS - I would like to hear what you, my community, would like to relay to the international food community and food leaders. Please send stories, suggestions on food policy/agriculture, dreams, hopes, traditions, etc. to jstoneham@gormanfarm.org. You can also take a look at the other International Congress delegates that will be representing the USA.
  2. GO TO THE WINE & COFFEE TASTING - INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OPEN HOUSE - Indulge your senses with an afternoon of wine and coffee tasting, hors d'oeuvres, and good discussion. We will be featuring wines and coffees that hold true to Slow Food's values of "good, clean, and fair." Come out to Gorman Heritage Farm September 30th between 1-3pm to hear from Remo Bellucci about his experience at the past three Terra Madre and my trip to this year's International Congress and Terra Madre - Salone del Gusto. Click here to download the flyer for more information. Suggested donation is $10 (all proceeds will go to fund Jamie's trip to represent Gorman Heritage Farm, Slow Food Cincinnati, and this region at the International Congress). Also, save the date February 23rd for Ohio Valley's "Little Terra Madre." More details will be coming soon!
  3. SUPPORT FINANCIALLY - Below you can read a letter from the Coordinator of the U.S. Delegation to the International Congress and Terra Madre - Salone del Gusto and give a donation online by going to this site: http://gormanfarm.org/slow-food-movement.html.

Please enjoy the following thank you gifts for donating:
$10 - A postcard from Italy with a recipe and quick update.
$25 - Booklet with pictures and 5 recipes that I learned while at the Salone OR a gift certificate for 1 bag of Deeper Roots Coffee
$50 - Gift certificate for a cooking class at Gorman Heritage Farm
$100 - "Dinner with Jamie" You'll join other members donating at this level while I cook a meal using recipes, stories, and traditions I learned at the Salone (includes all food, BYOB) OR 1 freshly baked loaf of bread every month for a year (must live in Cincinnati).
$1000 - Dinner party/cooking class with up to 10 of your friends that Jamie will cook (includes all food, BYOB).

Dear Friend,

Every five years, Slow Food leaders from 130 countries come together at the International Congress to share their stories and shape the future of Slow Food’s global network. The 2012 International Congress is extra special, as it will be the first to happen concurrently with Terra Madre & Salone del Gusto, a biennial international food and farming conference that celebrates innovative solutions and time-honored traditions for feeding the planet in a good, clean, and fair way.

This year, Slow Food USA has invited Jamie Stoneham to be a U.S. delegate for this landmark food and farming conference on October 25-29 in Turin, Italy.

Being selected for this historic event is a special honor. Jamie is one of 200 to be selected as a delegate out of a pool of 600 applications. Not only does this mean that Slow Food leaders admire the incredible work that Jamie is doing, it also means that we believe Jamie is an important voice in Slow Food and the broader U.S. food movement.

While Slow Food offers housing, food, and ground transportation for delegates, we ask that delegates assume responsibility for their own flight tickets and other incidentals. Many delegates require financial support to attend. [I need to raise funds for my plane ticket and to pay for the different workshops at  Terra Madre - Salone del Gusto.]

We invite you to join us in supporting Jamie, with a donation today.

Both the International Congress and Terra Madre & Salone del Gusto are powerful and transformative experiences. Delegates leave inspired to change the food system through a global consciousness and deeper respect for the diverse, international food movement.

The theme of this year’s event is Feeding the Planet, because we believe everyone on earth has the right to access good, clean, and fair food. The conference will give Jamie a unique opportunity to help build relationships and solidarity between the global South and global North, as well as among diverse communities within the U.S.

Please support Jamie in joining the most diverse U.S. delegation yet to attend the International Congress and Terra Madre & Salone del Gusto.

Thank you,
